Where I live, there's never been any Japanese restaurant around, and Japanese is my number one all time favourite cuisine sadly. One of my Munchasaurus friend have told me about a new Japanese place next to my work, how can resist I not try it out right?
The day after my friend have told me about this place (which is not shown anywhere online yet), Munchasaurus Pi went on a little hunt during work lunch (I'm just so grateful it's close my work).
It's located on Wolverton High Street, at the very very edge and fairly small. Wasn't the most obvious location nor have the easiest parking spot, but the important thing is I've found it. I had a quick look at the menu outside, just to make sure this wasn't an crazily priced restaurant and what kind of Japanese food do they offer then walked in without much convincing (or any at all in this instants).
As you can see from the menu, they offer quite a wide range of sushi, and very commonly known 'Dons' and Japanese dishes in UK. Prices looked very averaged too.
My initial thought as I walked in was - oh, this is quite a posh place and I'm alone.. (this is probably the second ever time being alone in a restaurant, I must admit I felt quite brave at that very moment lol).
The interior decor was simple, dark and very sophisticated. For a quick work hour sneaky lunch and dressed very casual, I felt quite out of place.. but nevertheless I'd walked in and walking out felt even more inappropriate!
As a work lunch, I needed something quick but I was eager to try out their sushi selection too. To please both idea, I decided to try out the ramen as it was unbelievably cheap and ordered a pair of nirigi on the side.
I had picked scollop nirigi to try; this is one of my favourite type of sushi, you don't get it in a lot of Japanese restaurants in UK, and you can really taste if the seafood is fresh from scollop. The scollop was fresh and lovely, the little down side was the rice as it was slightly over vinegar-ed and pressed a touch too much
The spicy chicken ramen...all I can say is I don't recommend this. They'd used "Shin Ramyun" instant noodle as their ramen, for those question how I know? it's simple to taste the difference once you had it once, you can easily get it from most chinese supermarket, or even some Tesco nowadays, they look like this:
The choice of vegetables for a ramen isn't quite "Japanese" neither, plus the egg was a big disappointment as it was well cooked, but normally the yolk should be half cooked. The soup based seems like they used the pack of favouring that comes with the "Shin Ramyun" instant noodle but they didn't even put much in so it wasn't even very spicy... I now understand why the dish is low in price compared to the average...
If you really fancy some Japanese while your nearby, it's worth a try. Munchasarurus Pi will be go back and try out the sushi selection sometime though so that might be a game changer.
