As Munchasaurus Pi, I, has the honour to be one of my close friends bridesmaid, I've been trying to be quite cautious as to what to munch so I can get in those pretty bridesmaid dresses. The dress haven't been picked out yet, but I want to be in as good shape as possible for it, I mean, who doesn't want to look pretty in a bridesmaid outfit?
As I've been a little more cautious (I say a little cause I've been very bad still...), and I've obviously still have the munchies, I've made myself some Chinese marble tea eggs; yummy, filling, cheap and healthy.
A lot of my friends were like "oh what is that? it looks very pretty", so I thought maybe I should give it a shout out for one of my favourite childhood snacks. Tea eggs originates from China, are boiled with black tea leaves, sauces and typically Chinese 5 spices, giving it the lovely fragrant and favour.
Chinese Marble Tea Eggs
12 x eggs1 pack of tea egg spices
2 tsp x salt
I cheated a little bit with the tea eggs, I've brought a pack of spice bags (pic above) for them, saves me finding everything individual and it's all measured up already :P
I brought this from a Chinese supermarket call 'Central', as you can tell it's only £1.48. A lot of Chinese supermarket will have them, and it's comes with 2 sets (2 spices bags and 2 tea leaves bags) so you can make them twice.
All you have to do, is now boil the eggs with plain water, until the egg white is solidified - I cooked it for about 8 minutes.
Drain the pot and crack the shell of each egg.
Put the eggs back in the pot, pour enough water to cover the eggs, put the salt, tea & spice bags in and bring it to boil, you'll see the spice and tea leave bags will slowly make the water black, that's normal:
Let it simmer for about an hour or 2 and leave over night (and just leave the tea and spice bags inside), the longer you leave it, the more fragrant the eggs will be.
When you are ready to munch, just bring it to boil again to heat up the eggs, de-shell and you'll get some pretty marbled tea eggs!! now munch away :D
Oh, and the eggs will keep for a good few days too ;)
